Fioricet Indications:
Fioricet (Butalbital, Acetaminophen, and Caffeine) is indicated for the relief of the tension headaches and muscle contraction headaches. This non-narcotic pain medication is not indicated for but is often used to treat migraines and other pain related disorders. Fioricet is an effective pain killer however it has been associated with an increased risk of addiction when not used properly or used for too long.
How do I take Fioricet?
Fioricet should be taken exactly as prescribed by your physician. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your fioricet prescription label and tell your physician if the medicine seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain.
If Fioricet upsets your stomach take it with food or milk. An overdose of acetaminophen can cause serious harm and damage to your liver. The maximum amount of acetaminophen for an adult is 1 gram per dose and 4 grams per day. Taking more acetaminophen could cause damage to your liver.
Fioricet Side Effects
If you have an allergic reaction with any of the following signs: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat get immediate emergency medical help. Call your physician immediately if you have any of these side effects while taking your Fioricet:
- fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
- feeling light-headed or short of breath
- nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
- easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
Less serious side effects may include:
- drowsiness
- dizziness, confusion or lightheadedness
- dry mouth
- nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite
- feeling anxious or jittery
- drunk feeling
- headache
This is not a complete list of Fioricet side effects and others may occur. Tell your physician about any unusual or bothersome side effect.
